Sinclair Brings National Art Competition to Tarlac, Inspiring a New Generation of Filipino Artists
TARLAC, Philippines — Art has the power to connect communities, preserve culture, and inspire new possibilities. This spirit took center stage as the 2026 Sinclair National Art Competition – SNAC – Roadshow arrived in Tarlac, bringing together artists, educators, cultural advocates, and local stakeholders in a shared celebration of Filipino creativity.
Led by the Sinclair Team, the Tarlac leg of the roadshow introduced the national competition to the province’s creative community, encouraging artists to explore their ideas, experiment with artistic techniques, and showcase their talents on a wider platform.
The initiative was joined by respected figures in the Philippine art scene, including Filipino artist, educator, curator, and cultural advocate Abe Orobia; Alfon “Box Populi” Casabuena of the United Artists Society; contemporary Filipino artist Wellers Visencio; and Maestro R. Orobia.
Their participation helped bring an artistic perspective to the gathering, reinforcing the importance of creating opportunities for Filipino artists to develop their craft and gain recognition.
Bringing Art and Culture Closer to the Community
The Tarlac roadshow received support from local leaders and representatives of the province’s cultural sector.
Among those present were Melissa Yeung-Yap, First Lady of Tarlac Province; Cherrylyn Pascua, DPA, Officer of Diwa ng Tarlac; Jared Yokte, Consultant for Arts and Culture; Judeo Herrera, Assistant Consultant for Arts and Culture; and Jhaye Cura, Consultant for Music.
The engagement also reached the academic community through Tarlac State University–San Isidro Campus. University representatives included Edno T. Joson, Department Head of Fine Arts; Ar. Garry M. Advento, Dean of the College of Architecture and Fine Arts; and John Vincent David, Faculty Member of Fine Arts.
Their involvement highlighted the value of connecting artistic initiatives with educational institutions, where emerging talents can find encouragement, inspiration, and opportunities to develop their creative abilities.
Sinclair also recognized the support of the Provincial Tourism Board and its partners, particularly for accommodations at TSU Hotel Lucinda and the use of venues at Diwa ng Tarlac and the TSU Fine Arts Department.
Two Artistic Paths to Showcase Filipino Creativity
At the heart of the 2026 Sinclair National Art Competition are two categories designed to accommodate different approaches to artistic expression.
Category 1: Representational Obra
Carrying the theme “Creating Horizons for the New Generation,” Representational Obra invites artists to create figurative works that interpret the theme through their own creative perspectives.
The category encourages participants to communicate meaningful ideas through recognizable subjects, imagery, and visual storytelling.
Category 2: Wall Obra
For artists drawn to abstraction and experimental expression, Wall Obra provides an opportunity to explore non-representational art.
Entries may incorporate patterns, repetition, graffiti-inspired elements, and bas- and high-relief treatments. The category celebrates creative exploration and the many ways artists can communicate through form, texture, and composition.
Both categories require a 30-inch × 36-inch landscape box-type canvas.
